My MacBook Logic Board is Dead
The MacBook that we bought back in December of 2006 went dark the other night. Only the sleep light would illuminate at full brightness, making it one of Apple Computer's first high-tech flashlights. I already have enough Petzls and SureFires, so I took the computer in for warranty repair. That's all I know about the nature of the defect and repair at the moment, as I haven't gone to retrieve the MacBook from the repair facility in Austin. I may do that on Wednesday.

I purchased my macbook in November of 2006. It started randomly shutting down 2 or 3 months ago. As the shutdowns became more frequent I called applecare. I was talked through several proceedures on 2 or 3 seperate occasions by different tech reps, but nothing worked. Finally, it shut down, and won't boot up. None of the people I talked with mentioned that it was a widespread problem. I finally took it to an authorized repare shop, and for $30they told me it was the logic board, and would cost $1,020 to repair. While I was waiting 24 hours for the verdict, I did some research, and found that Apple had even acknowledged the problem, but none of their reps mentioned it to me. The people at the repair store "IPlace" said they didn't know anything about it. I have since learned that 3 airlines have banned macbooks from being carried on their planes without the batteries being removed due to the overheating issue. I'm presently in the process of trying to get apple to fix my macbook which is a few months out of warranty.
